Small Biz Workshop

One of the most important things we believe we can do is support the small and independent business community. After all, coworking isn’t just about community. It’s about creating a network of support so that everyone can be more successful at what he or she does.

What does that mean, exactly? Well, it means that if one person has a question, say, about how to better promote his services online, it’s our job here at ThinkHouse to find away to facilitate a learning experience — not just for that one person, but for others who probably have the same question.

That’s why we started the Small Biz Workshop series. This is a monthly event geared toward folks who are newbies to the small/indie biz scene. It’s a time to learn about a specific aspect of running a small business, get some questions answered, share challenges and wins and meet fellow entrepreneurs.

The first workshop of this series was a presentation by Alejandro Reyes, small-business consultant and marketeer, on building a personal brand. Here are some of the takeaways from those who attended:

  • Blogging can bring that personal touch to your website. People like to see the real you and stay connected. Blogging is a great way to do that. It made me really consider starting a blog.
  • This concept was new to me — that branding is owning a word or category in the prospect’s mind.
  • I’ve been mulling over two things in particular: underdog stories are intriguing and captivating, helping to create community before you need it.
  • I took away some great questions and statements to think about: What are you deeply passionate about? What drives your resource engine? What do you do best? Wake up everyday asking yourself how can I make someone’s life or business better.

This is the kind of thing that reminds us why we do what we do around here — bringing people together for community and collaboration.

The next Small Biz Workshop, Blogging 101 with Alejandro Reyes, will be on Wednesday, 4/13. Join us if you can, and please RSVP here.
