Get out of the house and get connected.

by Janna Marlies Maron on January 10, 2011

Last week a friend and coworker of ours stopped by for a visit before making a move out of state to Washington (you’ll be missed, Anne!). As we were chatting, she mused about her early days of motherhood. Every Friday she went to a moms group, and it was the thing that kept her going all week long.

Getting out of the house and getting connected was something she looked forward to. It was just one day a week, but it sustained her through the monotony and isolation of staying home the other 4 days.

Kinda like coworking for moms.

Another friend of ours, Bryan, whose design firm did our logo, also works at home with his wife and business partner, Stephanie. He told us not too long ago about a networking group that he attends — once a week on Thursday mornings.

Getting out of the house and getting connected is something he looks forward to for the rest of the week.

It’s what independent and mobile workers do these days: if they are stuck at home, they look for intentional ways to get out of the house and get connected. Even if it’s just once a week.

So what are you waiting for? Treat yourself to a work-away-from-home day — even just once a week.

The organization we joined is called BNI. They have chapters all over the country.

I have gained so much getting out of the house and meeting other entrepreneurs.

Find a local chapter near you in Sacramento and the greater Centeral Valley:
