Bull Session+Wine+Goats=One Helluva Sacramento Blogger Event

What happens when you combine a marketing maven, a blogger and a coworking community? You get a great event like Wine 101 Blogger Seminar at Story Winery, which we attended over the weekend.

What are we talking about, exactly? Glad you asked. We’ve been talking for weeks now about the Bull Sessions we host here at ThinkHouse on Tuesday afternoons. We’ve been doing them regularly since the beginning of the year, and since then we’ve seen some pretty cool things come out of those sessions. One of them being the Wine 101 Blogger Seminar. Here’s how it happened:

Cinde Dolphin of Marketing for Mavericks is the marketing director for Story Winery in Amador County. Cinde has been coming to the our Bull Sessions regularly, and one week she presented a dilemma to the group: how can she attract a younger demographic to Story Winery? Several ideas came out of that particular Bull Session, and Cinde talks about them in the video below.

One of the ideas came from Margaret Andrews, author of Sticky Readers and the funny bone behind Nanny Goats in Panties. Margaret is one of our members here at ThinkHouse and also comes regularly to the Bull Sessions. She suggested that the winery offer a wine tasting 101 class for bloggers, which Cinde and Margaret planned and hosted this past Sunday.

With 15 bloggers in attendance, the folks at Story Winery knew they needed to put on a show… and they did! We got the history of the winery from the owners Jan Tichenor. She told the “story” about how she and her husband Bruce became owners and their philosophy of winemaking. We were then treated to a full tour of the grounds, where we saw 100-year-old zinfandel vines and learned what it takes for a winery to become organic certified. Story Winery is just one year from that badge of honor. We also got a lesson in tasting wine from assistant winemaker Brian Reid: what to look for in the color of the wine, what to sniff for in the smell of the wine and what to taste for on the first sip. Of course that included tasting their lovely wines. And to top it all off, we got $10 off our wine purchase, a souvenir glass to take home with us AND a certificate of completion.

Now, multiply this experience by 15 bloggers who are all Tweeting and Instagramming the heck out of this event, and likely writing a blog post about it after the fact. Not only that, but also we have been telling everyone we know about what a great event it was.

Obviously it was a success. These ladies outdid themselves.

The Bull Session at ThinkHouse Collective is the place to turn your inspiration into a working reality as well as a place where you can be instrumental in helping others realize their dreams. This is the power coworking: sharing ideas, collective brainstorming and a community that helps support your efforts. Come see for yourself. Every Tuesday. 4:30 until 6 p.m.

The opportunity to collaborate with other small busincess owners is – as they say – priceless. As more people work from home, they’ll discover how valuable it is to sit around a table and just talk. Diverse workstyles, cultures and talents bring new perspective and creativity to your thinking.
If I could suggest one thing to folks starting a new biz – I’d say get your butt into a coworking space and suck up all the benefits! Bring your problems, solutions and humor.
Join Bull Session and take this co-working thing out for a test drive…
